Lunar Eclipse

My birthday was on June 15th. I am now 61 years old. The Universe gave an amazing present... a witnessed a total lunar eclipse.

Understanding the physics of an eclipse is easy, especially for those who can see in space. It is not my case. It took an orange, a clementine, an apricot, pieces of wire, numerous drawings before I could pass the astronomy part of my certification as an astrologer.

It is enough to know that due the celestial mechanics, the Sun, Moon and Earth align twice a year for a period of 37 days each time. It is during these periods that eclipses are possible. A lunar eclipse can only happen on the Full Moon when the Earth is between the Sun and Moon, casting its shadow onto the Moon and preventing the Sun's light from reaching it.

I don't look at the sky often enough because life gets in the way, but on the night of the 15th I was in awe. On one hand, I felt my insignificance relative to the cosmic vastness, on the other hand, fascinated by the mysteries of the sky and the heavenly order, I felt that I belong, that I am part of the Universe, never alone, never anxious because I am part of reality bigger than me but that includes me.

In the past, especially before orbital knowledge, eclipses were deemed malefic. It is understandable..... The Moon was the first calendar of humanity, supposedly regular, reliable... and then it disappears. The occultation of the Moon is magical, an obvious manifestation of a superior power, darkness is scary, monsters can be expected.

The June 15 eclipse happened on the 25th degree of the Gemini / Sagittarius axis. People with a sensitive point – Sun, Moon and Ascendant - on their horoscopes on or close to these degreees are more likely to feel its effects. And what are they?

The Moon on the chart represents our emotional world, what we need to feel good, the intimate side, our subconscious made of past memories, habits, instinctive reactions. Its disappearance, even for an hour, gives us the opportunity to reconfigure that part of us that others do not see. For those with sensitive points around 25th Gemini / Sagittarius, the energy of this time will allow you through a work of introspection to retrace your emotional path, to leave behind harmful habits, and move on to a higher plane. Comparing with a computer: when it is malfunctioning I turn it off (eclipse), clean up the hard disk, defragment and reconfigure (personal work) and turn it on again (Moon shines again). Nothing malefic about this but it requires a little work... that brings hope of a better future.

Eclipses work in cycles of 19 years, so it is helpful to reflect what we were doing mid 1992? What changes did I make, what inspirations did I have and what am I ready to do now? Personally I will use the fantastic light of this powerful post eclipse Full Moon to "see" which fears prevent me from going forward, which are the negative habits that are ready to be trashed. One of them was about the fear of writing in Portuguese... which I have already thrown away as I started at the beginning of the month an astrological blog in Portuguese. This supports the theory that eclipses can manifest up to a month before the event date... and certainly a few week after.
